Mainly, they are used to get data from people efficiently, so researchers can learn about different opinions, attitudes, and preferences. Therefore, in academic research, they are commonly used to ask people questions about a specific topic, measure different things, and reach conclusions. For instance, researchers might want to know how many students like a certain type of teaching methodology or how often they practice their speaking skills.
